Many consultants focus on writing applications. I focus on understanding organizations — what makes you, your work, and its impact uniquely compelling.
My background and expertise extend beyond writing. I bring together strategy, research, communications, project management, and organizational storytelling to identify the threads that connect your mission, programs, outcomes, and community impact — often uncovering strengths, patterns, and opportunities that clients hadn't yet recognized or found the words to express.
The result is more than a polished grant proposal. It is evergreen language and supporting materials that help mission-driven organizations make their strongest case for investment — one that funders can quickly understand, champion, and support.
More than a grant writer, I serve as a strategic partner, bringing out the best in your organization through thoughtful collaboration, clear communication, and a commitment to producing work that is as rigorous as it is human-centered.

Collaborative, honest, and straightforward. We're here to guide the process, bring ideas to the table, and keep things moving.
-
I typically work on either an hourly or project-based basis, depending on the scope of work. Before we begin, I'll provide a clear proposal outlining deliverables, estimated hours (when applicable), timelines, and costs so there are no surprises.
Every organization has different needs. Some clients need a single grant proposal, while others benefit from ongoing funding strategy, prospect research, grant management, impact reporting, or communications support. Together, we'll determine the structure that makes the most sense for your goals and budget.
-
No. Professional grant writers do not work on commission or accept payment based on the outcome of a grant application.
There are several important reasons for this:
It is considered an ethical best practice within the grant profession. Organizations such as the Grant Professionals Association discourage contingency-based compensation because it can create conflicts of interest and undermine the objectivity and integrity of the grant process.
Many funders explicitly prohibit grant funds from being used to pay commissions or success fees related to preparing or securing the grant. Funders generally expect their investments to support an organization's mission, programs, services, and operations—not to retroactively compensate consultants based on an award.
Grant awards are never guaranteed. Funding decisions are influenced by many factors outside a grant writer's control, including funder priorities, available funding, competitiveness, geographic restrictions, review committees, and broader economic conditions. My role is to maximize your organization's competitiveness by developing compelling, well-researched, strategically aligned proposals—not to promise an outcome that no one can ethically guarantee.
Hiring a grant writer is an investment in strategy, research, persuasive writing, and long-term fundraising capacity. Whether or not a particular proposal is funded, that work often produces valuable assets—including refined organizational messaging, stronger program frameworks, evaluation plans, budgets, and proposal language—that can be adapted for future funding opportunities.
-
No grant writer can ethically guarantee funding.
What I can promise is a rigorous, thoughtful process grounded in strategic research, compelling storytelling, careful analysis, and attention to funder priorities. I only recommend pursuing opportunities that are a strong fit for your organization, and I work closely with clients to submit proposals that are clear, competitive, and responsive to each funder's requirements.
Ultimately, funding decisions belong to the grantmaker—not the grant writer.
-
Every engagement begins with understanding your organization, programs, goals, and funding priorities. Depending on your needs, services may include:
Grant prospect research and funding strategy
Grant proposal writing and editing
Program design and logic models
Budget development and narrative alignment
Letters of inquiry and foundation applications
Government grant applications
Grant reporting and impact reports
Strategic messaging and communications
Throughout the process, I keep communication clear, collaborative, and organized so you always know where we are and what's needed next.
-
The strongest grant proposals are collaborative. While I do the heavy lifting on research, strategy, and writing, I'll need information about your organization, programs, budget, leadership, outcomes, and future plans. I'll guide you through exactly what's needed and help identify any gaps along the way.
-
Not always—and that's okay.
Sometimes the best investment isn't submitting more applications right away. It may be strengthening your organizational narrative, refining a program model, developing measurable outcomes, building evaluation tools, or identifying better funding matches.
If I don't believe your organization is ready for a particular opportunity, I'll tell you honestly and help recommend next steps that will improve your chances of success in the future.
-
Many organizations successfully write grants internally. Others simply don't have the time, capacity, or specialized experience required to research opportunities, interpret funder guidelines, develop competitive narratives, and manage complex application processes.
My role is to bring an outside strategic perspective, deep research skills, persuasive writing, and experience translating complex programs into compelling, fundable proposals—allowing your team to stay focused on delivering your mission.
-
Think of me as an extension of your team.
I handle the research, strategy, writing, project management, and proposal development, while your team provides the organizational knowledge and program expertise that only you can offer.
Most clients spend a few hours gathering documents, answering questions, reviewing drafts, and providing feedback. I'll guide you through the process, keep us on schedule, and make the experience as streamlined as possible.
-
I work with a wide range of mission-driven organizations and purpose-driven businesses, including:
Nonprofits and community-based organizations
Public schools, school districts, and education foundations
Colleges and universities
Local governments and public agencies
Coalitions and collaborative initiatives
Social enterprises and fiscally sponsored projects
BIPOC-, women-, and other founder-led businesses seeking grant or philanthropic funding
For nonprofits and public agencies, funding opportunities are often more established and easier to identify. For businesses and social enterprises, the process typically begins with a research and eligibility assessment to determine which foundations, corporate giving programs, government grants, competitions, or other funding opportunities align with your business model, ownership structure, industry, and goals.
Every engagement starts with understanding where your organization is today and identifying the funding landscape that's most appropriate for you.
-
Even strong proposals aren't funded every time.
Grant decisions depend on many factors beyond the quality of an application, including funder priorities, available funding, geographic considerations, applicant pool strength, and annual budget constraints.
If a proposal isn't selected, we'll review any feedback provided by the funder, identify opportunities for improvement, and determine whether the proposal should be revised for resubmission or adapted for another funding opportunity.
Because I build proposals around strong organizational narratives, measurable outcomes, and reusable content, much of the work we create together can often be leveraged for future applications—making each proposal an investment rather than a one-time effort.
-
Every project is different, but most competitive grant proposals require several weeks or even months to complete.
A typical project includes:
Discovery and information gathering
Research and funder review
Proposal strategy and outlining
Narrative development
Budget alignment
Internal review and revisions
Final submission preparation
Whenever possible, I encourage organizations to begin planning well before grant deadlines. Starting early allows time for stronger strategy, thoughtful collaboration, and a more competitive application.
-
I do my best work with organizations that value thoughtful strategy over quick fixes.
Grant writing is much more than filling out an application. Strong proposals require time to understand your organization, ask thoughtful questions, analyze programs and outcomes, identify the strongest funding fit, and craft a compelling narrative that authentically reflects your work.
I'm naturally thorough and detail-oriented, and I believe that investing in strategy upfront leads to stronger proposals—and ultimately, better funding opportunities. Rather than aiming to simply "check the box" or submit an application as quickly as possible, I focus on producing work that I would be proud to put my name on and that gives your organization the strongest possible chance of success.
That means I may not be the best fit if you're looking for a last-minute proposal with minimal collaboration or a rapid turnaround. While I can occasionally accommodate expedited timelines when schedules allow, those projects often require flexibility around scope, availability, and expectations.
The clients who get the most value from working with me see grant development as a collaborative, strategic investment—not just a deadline to meet. Together, we build proposals that are thoughtful, well-supported, and often reusable for future funding opportunities.
